National Assembly discusses special mechanisms and policies for Đà Nẵng's growth

HÀ NỘI — Đà Nẵng City is poised for an economic leap as the National Assembly (NA) debated a draft resolution aimed at accelerating its growth on Friday.

The draft resolution outlines 30 specific mechanisms and policies to address shortcomings in the current urban governance model and unlock Đà Nẵng's full economic potential.

A central focus of the proposal is the establishment of a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) within the city.

NA deputies expressed strong support for the FTZ concept, recognising its potential to attract significant foreign investment and boost trade.

"FTZs have been very successful in countries like Singapore and China, and Việt Nam’s extensive coastline makes it well-suited for this model," said Deputy Trần Hoàng Ngân from HCM City.

However, concerns have also been raised regarding the legal framework and oversight mechanisms needed for a successful FTZ implementation.

"There are no established regulations for FTZs in Việt Nam yet," said Deputy Nguyễn Hữu Thông from Bình Thuận.

"We need a special oversight mechanism to allow for evaluations and adjustments during implementation."

Deputy Hà Sỹ Đồng from Quảng Trị emphasised the importance of human resource in bringing the measures into force. He suggested adding new favourable policies to the draft resolution to improve personnel quality and attract talents.

"We need high-quality personnel to navigate these special mechanisms," he said.
